Kia ora and Welcome to St. Francis School, Thames
Some important information about distance learning for your child.
Kia ora parents and whanau, as mentioned in yesterday’s notice, School Holidays will begin next Monday 30th of March and end on Tuesday 14th April (inclusive). These are holidays so no daily home learning will be provided by the school during this time.
On all other weekdays, your child’s teacher will be available for contact from 9am to 3pm (including this week.) We understand that for many families the move to distance learning maybe a difficult transition. Please do not stress or worry about your child’s learning rather look at it as an opportunity to engage with and spend time with your child. It is a good opportunity to do some hands on activities with your children, gardening, baking, cooking, constructing or exercising.
We will be providing both physical and online learning for your child to do on school days. Teachers have put together physical learning resources for each child in Rooms 1 and 3 to enable your children to continue learning at home. Room 5 children have already taken resources home but if you would like to pick up some extra journals you are free to do so. These packs include reading materials, worksheets and other activities and is enough learning to get through to early next Term.
Google Classroom - Online Learning and communication platform.
The majority of Learning information will be facilitated through Google classroom. This will gradually become your one stop shop for children’s learning and communication with their teacher. All children have a Gmail address which gives them open access to google apps. Room 1 Gmail addresses and passwords have been emailed to parents today. Please take time to make sure you and your child have access to this. Each child has been invited to join either Room 1, 2 or 3 Google classroom. This invitation will be in your child’s Gmail inbox. Each day, Teachers will post learning information on this platform and will be available for you or your child to ask any questions. It is important to note that St Francis google classrooms are a work in progress and while currently in operation, they will be developed further over the coming weeks.
Please feel free to email your child’s teacher with any questions you have.

Welcome to the 2020 School Year
We are all very excited about the year of learning ahead. This year's learning theme is 'In faith, life and learning be strong, be brave, be steadfast'. This is derived from Term 4's whakatauki 'kia kaha, kia maia, kia manawanui'. This theme challenges us as a community to stand tall, be proud and live out faith in all that we do. Learning is at the heart of this. Our children are challenged to be risk takers in their learning, resilient when things are tough and strong in knowing who they are and what they stand for.
We have much to look forward to in 2020 so be sure to check out our weekly newsletter for regular updates as well as our school facebook page
